Surprise Love

Posing after her summer cut

I love this recipe, my dog loves them.

I made some of these to offer to dogs while their pet parents checked out my table at a local Barktoberfest. I also put 6 biscotti each in bags if my customers wanted them. I did not plan to sell any of them, just to offer as samples. Well, all 8 bags that I planned to freeze for my pup sold.

Everyone's dog gobbled them up! I bake my batch to be medium crunchy and instructed the pet parents to pop them in the toaster oven if their pet liked more crunch. Thank you for such a wonderful recipe; my Deja say thanks also!

Grain-free adaptation?
by: Ellen

I'd like to have my homemade treats to be grain-free, since so much out there is not. Can I use brown rice flour at the same ratio as wheat flour?
Thanks.

Chef's Answer ~ Yes, you can substitute the brown rice flour for the whole wheat flour in this recipe. I would recommend adding another suitable grain free flour to this recipe. The reason is that rice flour is very fine in texture and when it is substituted for wheat flour it can make the finished dog treat too heavy or dense.

So, my suggestion would be to use 3 cups of brown rice flour and 1 cup of almond flour (also called almond meal) to replace the 4 cups of whole wheat flour in this dog treat recipe.

I hope that helps. :)

Made these as a gift

I made up a batch as a gift and dipped them in yogurt coating. My friend's dog LOVED them!

My two little picky dogs also loved them, and would spend the first few minutes licking the hardened coating off, then would eat the cookie :)
