Is cinnamon safe for dogs?

I recently read that cinnamon is poisonous to dogs. Comment?

Will the Banana dog treat icing dry hard?

Will the Banana dog treat icing dry hard or semi hard? and does it need to be refrigerated?

Chef's Answer ~ No, it will not dry hard. If you leave the decorated dog treat out at room temperature the icing may get semi-hard.

This dog treat icing is meant to be served fresh, so you will need to keep it in the fridge to keep it fresh.

You could try adding cornstarch a teaspoon at a time to make the icing harder. It will alter the flavor, but it should still taste yummy to your dog.

Banana Dog Treat Icing

I made this recipe without the bananas and nuts. My dog loved it, but when I put them in the fridge and left them over night the next day when I took them out the frosting was dull and dried out looking. They did not look nice at all. I thought they would look like the ones I have seen online in the other dog bakeries. What did I do wrong? Evidently the flavor was good because my picky dog begged for more!! That was good. I just want them to look like I got them from a dog bakery.

Chef's Answer ~ That does sound very disappointing. The icing may have looked dull and dried for a couple reasons. Is it possible that they were not sealed in an air-tight container? If so, that may be why they became dry. The dullness may have occurred because of oxidation, again, because of too much contact with air. You may want to consider using a food coloring gel to create a brighter look, if you choose to make this recipe again.

Many dog bakeries will use a type of royal icing, which is almost entirely powdered sugar. Since you are making a healthy dog treat at home, there will be some differences in the way your treats look. If you want to make this dog treat icing for a dog party, bake the cookies in advance and ice them before the guests arrive.

The most important thing is that your dog loved them! :)
