Peanut Butter Dog Treat
with Safflower Oil

This peanut butter dog treat uses safflower oil which has a good source of vitamins E and K. It is also contains omega 6 fatty acids.

In addition, safflower oil may help moisturize your dog's skin. Safflower oil is flavorless and colorless, so the true smell and taste of the peanut butter will shine through.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup safflower oil
  • 2 medium eggs
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/4 cups unbleached white flour
  • 1/2 cups cornmeal
  • 1/2 cups rolled oats

Additional flour for rolling

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400° F
  2. Mix water, oil, eggs, peanut butter, and vanilla with a wire whisk (if you are using chunky peanut butter, mix with a fork).
  3. Gradually add the flours, cornmeal, and oats. If you'd like you can use a mixer to combine the wet and dry ingredients.
  4. Take one-third of the dough and place on a floured surface.
  5. Flour the top of the dough.
  6. Gently knead, adding more flour as necessary to form a pliable dough (This may require a substantial amount of flour).
  7. Roll out to 1/2 - 3/4 inch thickness and cut into shapes using dog cookie cutters. Repeat until all the dough is used.
  8. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, depending on thickness of biscuits . Leave in the oven for 20 minutes after turning oven off to crisp.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack before serving to your dog.

Too wet  I had to add about 3/4 to 1 cup of each of the dry ingredients as the mix was too wet to roll out. They are baking now so we'll see how the dogs like them....
