Liver Dog Treats
with Carrots

Serve this liver dog treats with carrots recipe for a big boost of vitamin A, since both carrots and liver are high in vitamin A.

Carrots are an excellent vegetable to add to your dogs diet. Carrots help protect vision as well as being high in dietary fiber, minerals and antioxidants.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound raw beef liver (you can also use chicken liver)
  • 1/3 cup grated carrot
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups wheat flour
  • 1 cup corn meal
  • 1 tsp oregano

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350° F
  2. Rinse liver and cut into small chunks.
  3. Grate the carrot.

  5. Place liver, carrot and egg in a food processor and puree until liquid. There may still be some very small pieces, it will not affect the overall consistency.

  7. Whisk together the flour, corn meal and oregano.

  9. Pour the liver mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until thoroughly combined.

  11. Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 8 x 8 baking pan. The mixture will be very thick.

  13. Bake for 30 minutes.
  14. Let it cool for 5 minutes on a wire rack.
  15. Use a knife to loosen and then invert pan onto the wire rack. Let it cool completely before cutting.

  17. Cut into 1" squares.

  19. Note: I served these treats to small and medium dogs, so I cut the 1" squares in half to produce smaller treats.


Yield: Approximately 68 1" squares.

Storing: These liver and carrot treats will last for about 1 week in the refrigerator. They will be good for up to 6 months in the freezer.
