Dog Treat Recipe without Eggs?

by Grace

My black lab is allergic to eggs... as well as chicken, duck, turkey, peas....lots of things.

I noticed most of your recipes have eggs... can you give me some recipes without eggs. Thanks.

Chef's Answer ~ Wow, your sweet baby is allergic to quite a few things. Besides making dog treats without eggs, like the dehydrated Liver Dog Treats you can substitute the eggs in any dog treat recipe.

There are several different options, and you can mix and match to see what works best for you and your dog, or what you have in your pantry.

For one egg you can use ONE of the following substitutions:

1/2 banana, 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce, 1/4 cup plain low or fat free yogurt, 1/4 cup of low or fat free milk, or my favorite option, 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed with 3 tablespoons of water.

I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)

NO DAIRY
by: jennifer

Hello...I'm not sure if I'm writing this in the wrong spot...but I'm new to this and rushing before work! I saved a beautiful dog from a bad situation and were learning things as we go with her. She has a bad stomach and we think dairy is whats making her sick. I spent all day sunday baking treats I thought would be okk.she loves pumpkin so I am looking to making pumpkin treat but it called for an egg and they made her sick!!! I need some ideas for non dairy recipes.can you please help? shes too good of a girl not to get any treats! THANK YOU

Chef's Comments ~ That's great that you have not only saved a sweet dog, but that you are willing and able to accommodate her special needs with homemade dog treats. :)

You can read the older posts below for ways to substitute eggs. But you can also look for recipes on my site that do not contain eggs, there are several.

You can easily substitute dairy, or milk, by using a non-dairy milk like soy, almond or coconut milk. Or, to cut down on what she may be allergic to, you can usually replace milk with plain water.

I hope that helps! :)

Egg substitutes for dog treats
by: Vishi

Hi
Thank you for the egg substitutes. I wanted to know if you add the 3 TBS of water along with the flaxseed or just the flaxseeds?

Thanks!

Chef's Answer ~ To make this egg substitute you need to stir together 3 Tablespoons of warm water with 1 Tablespoon of ground flaxseed. Let this mixture sit for about 5 minutes. Then when your dog treat recipe calls for adding the egg, add this flax and water combination.

Thanks for the egg substitution ideas

Thank you for these egg substitutes... not only is it great for those with allergies, but sometimes I forget to buy more eggs, so it's nice to know what I can use in their place!

Love all the dog treat recipes!

Thanks so much for the info on egg substitutes. Do you happen to have a recipe for cookies or treats for arthritis relief? Keeping in mind, my pug cannot have eggs, turkey, rice, barley, wheat, yeast or pork. Thanks again, glad I discovered this site.

Vicki

Chef's Comments ~ Cherries have been shown to relief arthritis symptoms. I have one cherry dog treat recipe right now, it's my Cherry Oatmeal Dog Muffin.

Check with your Veterinarian, but one way of helping your dog with arthritis is to give him Glucosamine Chondroitin supplements. You can make one of my dog treat recipes, especially the muffins, then after it is baked and soft, push a pill inside to help it to be accepted.

I hope that helps! :)
