Do you have a dog treat recipe that uses tart cherry juice concentrate?

My dog has very bad hips and the cherry treats do help ease his pain, but they are too expensive.

Chef's Answer ~ No, I'm sorry I don't have any recipes that specifically call for tart cherry juice concentrate. However, I do currently have one cherry dog treat recipe. It's my Cherry Oatmeal Muffin recipe.

I haven't tried this personally, but after doing some research, it seems like you can replace some of the liquids in baked homemade dog treats with juice concentrate. You'll have to experiment a little, so make small batches at first. My best thought is to try to mix a batter together that sticks together when you squeeze it between your fingers. So, if the dough seems too dry, add more concentrate, if it's too moist, add a little extra flour. Then use a cookie scooper to form little balls of dough. Flatten them to make a cookie, or leave them rounded for a softer treat. Then bake for approximately 10 minutes at 350. Be sure to check them often so they don't burn.

This is all my best guess, so please use your best judgment while experimenting and substituting with other dog treat recipes.

I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)

These are crunchy, healthy peanut butter dog biscuits that are sure to please even the most finicky of pooches. And they?re an easy dog treat recipe, too!

Ingredients:

1 c. whole wheat flour

1 c. spelt flour (if you don?t have it, use wheat flour in its place)

1 c. quick-cooking rolled oats

2 TBSP flax seeds

1-1/4 c. warm water

1/4 c. natural peanut butter

Directions:

First, you need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Next, mix up the flour, oats and flax seeds in a large mixing bowl.

Add the peanut butter and stir in the water.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface. You want to add in more flour, little by little, until the dough is no longer sticky.

Roll out the dough until it?s approximately 1/4″ thick. Here?s where you get to use those hydrant and bone-shaped, small cookie cutters! Or you can use your handy dandy pizza cutter to cut the dough into rectangles.

Bake for 20 minutes and then turn your oven off. By allowing them to cool in the oven, you?ll get crunchy biscuits!

I hope your pup enjoys them!

Here is one that my dog loves. It is a mixture for a crunchy peanut butter treat.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour

1 1/2 c. spelt flour (if you don?t have it, use wheat flour in its place)

1 1/2 c. quick-cooking rolled oats

3 TBSP flax seeds

1-3/4 c. warm water

4 oz. of tart cherry juice concentrate

1/2 c. natural peanut butter

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Mix up all of the dry mixes, the flour, oats and flax seeds in a large mixing bowl.

Add peanut butter and stir in the tart cherry juice concentrate and the water. I used the Fruit Advantage cherry juice concentrate because it is sediment-free and doesn't have any crystalized chunks in to like so many other cherry juice products.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface. If you need to add in more flour, little by little, until the dough is no longer sticky.

Roll out the dough until it?s approximately 1/4″ thick. Grab a hydrant and bone-shaped, small cookie cutters! Or you can use your handy dandy pizza cutter to cut the dough into rectangles.

Bake for 20 minutes and then turn your oven off. By allowing them to cool in the oven, you?ll get crunchy biscuits!
