Can you sub almond flour for the whole wheat flour?

I have not made this yet. My dogs are on a grain/gluten/dairy free diet.

Chef's Answer ~ Yes, you can substitute almond flour in this dog treat recipe. However, I would recommend using more than one acceptable flour when replacing the wheat flour. The texture usually comes out better when you do this. So, for your dogs I would recommend Garbanzo Bean flour, also called Chick pea flour and a small amount of Tapioca flour, also called Tapioca starch.

So, to try to make this more simple, I would personally replace the 4 cups of wheat flour with 2 cups of Garbanzo bean flour, 1 1/2 cups of almond flour and 1/2 cup of Tapioca flour.

However, if you don't have these ingredients, and you want to start baking right away, you could try to substitute all of the wheat flour with the almond flour. I would keep an eye on the consistence of the dough. You may need to add more liquids to the recipe to help the dough stay together.

I hope this has helped! :)

Thank you for your advise on making these. I will give it a whirl. Don't have Garbanzo bean flour, so I may just try almond flour and tapioca flour.
