Slice and Bake Dog Treat Recipe

by Emalee

I am looking for a dog cookie/biscuit recipe that I can shape into a log and slice for baking. I am having trouble locating a solution to this problem. Thank you for any help you can give my Taz - he is a darling and I love him so much and want the best for him.

Although I don't have a lot of experience with slice and bake cookies, I'll tell you what I know! :)

You can take any dog treat recipe that calls for rolling it out and cutting into shapes, and instead roll it into a log. One way of doing this is to lightly flour a large piece of wax paper. Then shape your dough into a log. Next wrap the dough with the wax paper and refrigerate for approx. 2 hours. Or, for quicker results, place in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Then remove, slice, and bake as directed.

If you want to make a couple logs for future baking, wrap your log roll in wax paper, and then a layer of foil. Make sure it's thoroughly wrapped up to avoid freezer burn. Place in your freezer where nothing will fall on top of it. Once it's frozen solid you can move it to a more convenient location.

When it comes time to bake, remove your log from the freezer and have a cup of hot water and a serrated knife on hand. Preheat your oven, lightly spray your baking sheet, and then slice the dog cookies about 1/4 inch thick. Since your dough is still mostly frozen, the baking time will be different than the original recipe. You can either let the slices come to room temperature and bake as usual, or you will need to bake the cookies at a lower temperature for a longer period of time.

I hope this helps. Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)
