Egg Paint Dog Treat Icing
by: Sammie

I bake my dog biscuits and then dehydrate them at a low temperature for quite some time...will this egg paint still be a suitable alternative to ice my biscuits?

Chef's Answer ~ If you bake the icing onto the treat, the way the recipe states, I don't see any reason why you couldn't dehydrate the treats after baking.

I hope this helps. :)

Do you have to refrigate the treats with this icing on them?

I dehydrate my pet treats and was wondering about dry storage with this icing.

Chef's Answer ~ Since this is icing is applied before the treat is baked, and then baked with the treat, the treats with this egg paint icing do not need to be refrigerated.

If you only dehydrate the treat with the egg paint on it, (as opposed to baking and then dehydrating completely), I would highly recommend dehydrating at a high heat. If you are using a dehydrator, that is usually 165 degrees.

Whatever method you use, be sure that the egg paint is completely baked or dried before serving the treat to your dog.

Egg yoke paint
by: Summer

I made cookies with the egg yoke and it molded after 3 days. I cooked them for 40 mins at 350. Do I need to cook them at a higher temp?

Chef's Answer ~ Homemade dog treats do not have preservatives. Most need to be refrigerated to maintain freshness. The temperature of the room, the way the treats were stored and how dry the finished treat are, all contribute to how long they will last.

Here are a few tips on how to store homemade dog treats. You may also want to consider a dog treat preservative.

To make your treats dryer, and possibly last longer, you would want to cook them at a lower temperature for longer.
