I made some home made dog biscuits for my dogs which was supposed to be hard and crunchy but they came out soft as bread. Why?

I added some carrot. Could it be there was too much moisture?

Chef's Answer ~ There could be several reasons your homemade dog treats did not come out as planned:

Oven Temperature - An oven can be a tricky place. The best way to ensure the temperature inside is what you've set it to be, is to get a thermometer.

Preheat - You'll also want to preheat your oven to the desired temperature before baking. That can affect your end product.

Moisture - Yes, too much moisture will make it so the treats do not have a chance to fully cook through, or dry out thoroughly.

Whenever your dog treats come out too soft, it's best to stick them back in the oven for another 5 minutes, and continue to check them for doneness. Remember that the treats will continue to harden as they cool, so take them out right before they are at the texture your dog desires.

I hope this helps! Happy Dog Treat Baking! :)

Crunchy dog biscuits

I have found that some of mine have gone soft as well, the trick I have found to get them hard is leave them in the oven once finished cooking overnight (turn off oven) happy cooking!

The most important thing that effects whether or not they come out crunchy is leaving them in the oven as it cools.
