Is this ok for my over weight dog?

by Allison
(Erie, PA, USA)

I want to try the peanut butter dog treat recipe but i have a question. My dog is a little over weight will this be OK for her or is it like junk food in a dogs version? And also how can i get my dog to lose weight, i heard they live longer at the right weight.

Chef's Answer ~ This treat should be fine for your dog. I do my best to only publish recipes that are healthy for dogs, so it is not like junk food. :) Homemade dog treats do not have the refined sugars, excess salt and chemical preservatives like some store bought treats, so in that way they are quite healthy for the average dog.

If you are concerned with getting your dog to his/her ideal weight, you need to consult with your Veterinarian. Only she can guide you in the right food and exercise program specifically designed for your dog according to breed, age and current health.

When you make these treats, I'd be happy to hear how your dog enjoyed them! :)
